When it comes to the question of the most natural look, leaving hair out or getting a partial unit are great ways to have the most natural look to your extensions. But in the event, your hair doesn’t match your hair extensions or you don’t have the necessary hair growth for a leave out, a closure piece is the best solution.

A closure piece is a small piece of lace fabric, usually about 3.5”x4”, with individual strands of hair ventilated through and knotted directly to the lace. Silk closures have a layer of silk as well as a layer of lace. Silk closures tend to be a little thicker than lace, but have a more realistic scalp-like appearance due to the silk fabric. Fabric dye is used to tint the silk to match the wearers skin tone. To give a lace closure the appearance of growing out of ones scalp, the knots will need to be lightened by one of many techniques, the lace tinted to match the skin tone, and often a fabric placed underneath to mimic a scalp. Lace closures are thinner, but some people do not prefer the lace grids that are noticeable up close. One closure isn’t better than the other, it is truly personal preference. Silk closures take more labour to create and are more expensive, but they are also more delicate. Lace closures have a longer lifespan, are flatter, but take more work to make look natural. You should also seek your stylist’s recommendation to see which closure he/she is more familiar working with.
Due to the delicate nature of closures, we suggest that you don’t try to colour or bleach the closure. Also, it is important to take extra care to prevent damage in the form of balding. Balding is when your closure begins to have a spot where the hairs have come out of the base creating a balding appearance. This can be caused by, but not limited to, excessive tugging, brushing/combing, scratching with fingernails or foreign objects, applying product directly on the closure, rough handling, or vigorous washing. Closures while mimicking a real scalp, they cannot be treated like a real scalp. You must handle with care. Each hair is individually ventilated into the base, knotted and secured with a strong adhesive. Based on the construction of a closure, you should comb/brush the hair from the ends, working your way up to the root while hold the hair at the root to prevent tension. Hair loss on closures is relatively easy because it is not wefted like extensions. Improper care of your closure will cause balding and unfortunately, there is no way to fix this.
